Sauna heater accessories are the parts that complete the heater, protect the room around it, or replace a worn piece of it. They are not the bucket, the light, or the door. On this site that split is already in the catalog. The sauna heater accessories collection is merchandised around controls, safety railing, chimneys, heater elements, replacement doors, protective floor plates, protective sheaths, and air equalizers.1 Room extras sit elsewhere.
Buy the heater first. Then match the add-ons to that listing. A rail from one family will not automatically fit another. A chimney kit belongs on a wood stove. Stones are often sold separately even when the heater cannot run without them.
Which sauna heater accessories you need
Fuel type sets the list. Mount type (wall, floor, or embedded in a bench) sets the rest.
| Job | Electric heater | Wood-burning heater | Notes |
|---|---|---|---|
| Heat store | Specified stone load, often sold separately | Specified stone load, often sold separately | Diameter and shape follow the heater manual |
| Contact protection | Wood guard or maker rail | Wood guard or maker rail | Factory rail is family-specific. A builder-made wood guard can meet the same job |
| Floor and wall protection | Follow the electric-heater clearances in the manual. | Model-specific sheath and floor plate when the stove sits near combustibles | Sheath sides are stove-specific, not universal |
| Flue | None | Approved chimney path or kit | Extensions and flashing follow the building, not a style choice |
| Control | Built into some listings; required as a separate unit on others | Usually on the stove | Separate-control listings are different SKUs |
| Service parts | Matching heating elements | Matching door glass or firebox parts | Match the heater family |
| Air blending | Not required | Not required | Optional equalizer only. It does not replace the heater |
Shop sauna heater accessories by that job. If the fuel choice is still open, read Electric vs Wood-Burning Sauna Heater: Cost and Local Rules first.
Stones are part of the heater
A traditional heater without its published stone load is an incomplete appliance. On heaters we list, that load is often a separate line. One 9 kW pillar listing names a 200 lb load of 5-10 cm stones.2 A 16 kW separate-control listing in another family names a stone load and a matching controller as required for operation.3 Check the heater page before you treat the unit as ready to heat.
Stone size follows the heater, not a single shop rule. One maker says 5-10 cm stones are usually used in electric heaters because they fit between the elements, and that 10-15 cm stones belong on wood-burning heaters and on selected electric heaters with a larger cage.4 Another maker publishes 5-10 cm for some families and 3-5 cm for others, and it recommends rounded stones in its own cages.56 Do not buy one diameter for every unit in the house.
Use stones specified for sauna heaters. Decorative garden rock can crack. Olivine diabase is a common specified type. Rounded stones are not automatically wrong. They are the recommended shape on some mesh heaters. They are the wrong shape when the manual asks for split-face pieces that lock around an element.45
Piling is a safety step. Dust comes off first. Stones need gaps so air can move. On an electric heater they must support each other instead of hanging their weight on the elements. Do not pile stones into a tall mound above the frame.4 Follow the heater manual if a general list disagrees.
One maker tells owners to rearrange the bed at least once a year, sooner in heavy use, and to replace stones that crack or sound hollow.4 That is maker guidance, not a wear study. Shop the specified load in sauna stones. How stone mass changes heat-up and steam is already in How to Size a Sauna Heater the Right Way.
Guards and safety railing
The hot shell and the top stones will burn skin. Where the 2024 IRC sauna-heater section applies, the heater must be protected from accidental contact by a guard of a low-conductivity material such as wood. That guard must not block heat from reaching the room. The same section requires installation to the manufacturer instructions. Listed electric heaters under that section comply with UL 875.7 Adopted code varies by city. The listing and the manual still travel with the unit.
A factory rail is one way to meet that job. One heater maker strongly recommends a safety railing, either its own model-specific rail or a builder-made guard.8 The rail is sold by heater family. Do not assume a round rail for one pillar will clamp onto another.
A wood guard that stands off the shell can do the same work if it follows the manual and the adopted code.
Sheaths and floor plates for wood-burning heaters
Wood-burning stoves radiate into nearby combustibles. The published safety distances in the stove manual are the starting numbers. A model-specific metal sheath can reduce those distances on the stoves it is approved for. One sheath family is approved for a named set of small wood stoves. It bolts to the stove, follows the stove shape, and is sold as a full wrap or as a one-sided panel. The product page says it considerably reduces the distance to combustibles. It does not print a single reduction ratio for every install.9 Read the reduced clearances in that stove manual. Do not borrow a sheath from a different family.
The floor is a separate part. A steel bedding plate is used when the stove sits on a waterproofed tile floor. If that same bedding is used on a wooden floor, the matching sheath is required as well.10 Another maker sells a floor plate sized for its own wood-stove footprint when the stove sits on wood or another combustible floor.11 Those plates follow the stove footprint. They are not generic lids. Measure the stove and read the pairings in the manual.
Chimney kits
A chimney kit is a wood-burning heater selection.
The kit is the approved path for flue gas, rain, and the ceiling or wall penetration. One stainless 1500 mm kit ships with the insulated chimney plus a utility box: 1.0 m of non-insulated smoke pipe, a rain cap, a rubber rain flange and its install set, a ceiling lead-through flange, and lead-through insulation and a protector.15 The same maker's support note says that package still omits a vapor barrier and a smoke damper. Extensions are sold in 0.5 m and 1.0 m lengths. Total height must not exceed 5.0 m. That 1500 mm kit is suitable only for standalone outdoor saunas.16 Other chimney kits exist for different exits and roofs. Confirm the kit against the building and the stove before you order.
Current kit prices live on chimney and chimney kits. How that kit sits in the full project budget is in Sauna Kit Cost: What a DIY Kit Really Costs You.
One wood-stove maker also tells owners to have the chimney and flue cleaned by a specialist at least once a year.17 That note is maintenance after the kit is in.
Embedding flanges
Some electric heaters can sit in a bench cutout so only the stone cage reads above the seat. An embedding flange covers the raw cut and finishes the opening.12
On one wall-pillar family, at least 550 mm (21.7 in) of the heater must still stand above the bench when the unit is embedded.1213 On another family the install notes cap how deep the heater may sit in the bench and give an opening diameter for that flange.14 Those dimensions stay with those families. A flange from a different cage will not close a different hole.
If the heater page never mentions embedding, do not cut the bench.
Controls, in brief
Some electric heaters put time and temperature on the unit. Separate-control listings name a matching controller as required for operation.3 Built-in and separate are different SKUs. Do not order a separate-control heater if you need the control built in.
Shop the matching panel in sauna heater controls. What a modern controller actually does is a different article. This page only needs you to match the control the heater listing calls for.
Replacement elements and doors
Heating elements and heater doors are service parts. They are sold by heater family. On the warranty pages we publish, most heater brand's no longer cover heating elements and glass.18 Budget the part as a consumable.
Match the exact listing. Leave the swap to the manual or to a technician. This article does not cover the swap.
Air equalizers
An air equalizer is an optional fan unit for a room that already has a wood or electric heater. It is merchandised on the heater-accessories collection. It is not required for a standard heater to run.
The maker describes the job as blending hotter air near the ceiling with cooler air lower in the room to reach even temperature.19 It is a specialty add-on. It does not replace the right heater size or working ventilation.
How to match the SKU to the heater
Read the heater nameplate and the accessory list in the install manual. Buy stones, rails, sheaths, flanges, chimney kits, and controls only when that heater family is named on the part.
The sauna heater accessories collection is the single shop page for that list. The manual is the compatibility chart.
